Because standard Map Dowsing is soooooo 20th. Welcome to the 21st century, welcome to Google Maps Dowsing.

Map Dowsing works on the assumption, that a pendulum (or any other swinging object) can respond to questions in the mind of the dowsing with binary (that is: Yes/No) answers. So once can – for example – ask, whether above a certain location underground freshwater is located, and the pendulum will present it’s answer by the direction of it’s swinging movements.

Google seems to have all the answers, which are globally asked; it’s seems a logical step, that Google Maps must also be able to answer our questions.

Dowsing /theory/ states, that the body of the dowser is the /medium/ and the dowsing rods is merely an amplification of the signal communicated. In order to minimize physical distractions, which might influence the concentration of the dowser, it would be worth thinnking about ways of reducing the physical stimuli received from the environment.
One simple way is to conduct dowsing with the eyes shut, thus eliminating visual perceptions and also any observations of the dowsing rod movement. When dowsing with an Y-Rod, one can acutally not feel whether the Y-Rod is moving or not. A certain amount of pressure is applied to it, disabling most of the conscious control over the device. But with our 3D – Accelerometer enhanced rods, we will be able to detect and analyse (“hindcast”) the motions of the dowsing rods – even when conducted as blind dowsing sessions.

A short explanation of how dowsing is supposingly working. Our interest is not in proving or disproving, how and why dowsing functions (or not), rather we are using dowsing as a /black box/ cultural technique. And given, that this technique (not a technology) is around since millenia, who are we to question it.
